Weeks 5 and 6 • Rising Grades 5–9 • Theatre Makers – two-week program
Theatre Makers (Rising Grades 5–9)
Location: Waynflete (360 Spring Street)
8:30 a.m.–3:15 p.m.
July 17–28 (two-week camp)
Calling all theater makers! This is a camp designed to engage children with theater from a multifaceted perspective—honing their skills in performance, writing, technical design, sound, puppetry, and visual arts—to create something amazing. The new theater artist aims to blur the lines between performer, director, and designer, and tap into all imaginative possibilities of the artform.
In this two week camp, campers will be introduced to tackling theater through a blend of movement, visual art, puppetry, lighting, and sound. Campers will practice generating original performances through games, exercises, and prompts, and will be introduced to techniques through which they can create a unique, collaborative performance to take pride in. They will then be guided through the process of designing, building, and performing with their very own puppets, props, and masks. This will culminate in campers building and developing character-based scenes using the very objects they made. We will finish the course with a showcase built over the two weeks consisting of original visual and movement-oriented short performances. Campers will leave with experience in building and designing characters, puppets and theater props, a newfound confidence in their abilities as well-rounded artists, and an introduction to collaborative artistry.
