There will be opportunities to work cooperatively as a group and on solo projects, including a windmill-powered house with an LED light. We will map out our business and residential areas, schools, parks, public spaces, the airport/and or seaport. As we discuss the purpose and placement of each district, we will implement the engineering design process and learn about the ways that cities, highways, and neighborhoods are planned. Along the way, there will be engineering challenges, problem solving, spatial reasoning, and basic physics lessons all disguised as fun. Every afternoon, campers will have the options of field games and choice time. In addition to the on-campus fun, campers will take a field-trip to the Portland Observatory to see the city from a bird’s eye view.

In Electronic Music, campers will be introduced to some of the tools, concepts, and techniques involved in today’s music production process. Using Ableton’s Simpler and Impulse samplers, campers will learn the basics of sampling, live recording, and subtractive synthesis. They will record their own sounds from a variety of sources including: miking various objects, field recordings, sampling from YouTube, and recording instruments of their choice. Campers will then edit and creatively manipulate their sounds, followed by composing loops in Ableton, which are the foundations for building a song. By the end of the week, campers will produce their own short piece of music or sound collage, to share with family and friends.
