Ceramics
June 22–July 2, 2026

Do you love ceramics and building 3D forms out of clay? If so, this specialty camp is for you! Join talented Maine art teachers and create in our ceramics studio during this 2-week camp. The first week will focus on creation: campers will learn different hand-building techniques as well as throwing, using the studio’s pottery wheels. The second week will focus on learning about the glazing process and finishing your clay pieces. Our focus on small group learning and instruction will ensure that each camper gets one-to-one support on their projects. Be prepared to come home with many ceramic artworks and a better understanding of the entire ceramic process. No camp on July 3.

Art on the Move: Oceans

Join us this summer as we explore the beauty and bounty of Southern Maine with sketchbook and materials in hand! Our days will be focused on art making and field trips to inspire, explore and connect. Our time together will be spent creating both individually and collaboratively while exploring various mediums, materials and techniques. We’ll learn about a variety of artists’ sketchbook practices and embrace our own creative voices. We will beging our mornings on our Spring Street campus, and head out each day on a different field trip. Our guided morning activities and daily field trips encourage imagination, broaden our understanding of surrounding landscapes, and are full of summer fun! Come create with friends while deepening the connection with your own sketchbook. Field trips this week include Peak’s Island and Fort Williams.

Sewing: Home and Cooking

All skill levels are welcome in our Sewing Specialty Camps! Campers will tackle the basics of using sewing machines as well as how to hand sew. During Home and Cooking week, campers will take on exciting projects like making oven mits, aprons, chef hats, placemats, and anything else that sparks joy! In addition to the time spent having fun with fabric, campers will have time for outdoor play, games, and connective activities.

Sew What? Stitching Stories Through Embroidery

“Sew What? Stitching Stories Through Embroidery” introduces campers to foundational sewing skills with a strong focus on creative embroidery. Throughout the week, campers will learn essential hand-sewing and machine sewing techniques, practice safe tool-use, explore pattern design, and develop personal textile artworks that emphasize self-expression and storytelling. By the end of the week, campers will participate in a student-led gallery walk to show off their original pieces of work!

Weaving Works

Interested in learning about the way things are made with fibers and yarns on looms? If so, join local art teacher Jeremy Smith who brings his own blend of knowledge and fun to Summer at Waynflete. Campers will get to know more about weaving on looms during this one week specialty camp. As campers creatively experiment with patterns, colors, textures, they will learn practical skills and strategies to put materials to use in new ways. Jeremy has taught weaving at camp for the past 14 years and he will teach how simple and more complex weavings are made on table style looms, inkle looms, bracelet looms, and tapestry looms.

Fiber Arts

Join two of our art teachers in a week filled in exploring two fiber art techniques: punch needle and needle felting. This camp promises to be an enriching and unique experience for any young artist looking to expand their knowledge and skill in the fiber arts realm. All skill levels are welcome. Our art teachers will instruct students in the basics and how to begin a project, up to more advanced skills. Campers will work one-on-one with instructors for individualized mentoring and learning. During this week we will create a community fiber studio that will produce many colorful yarn and wool creations.
