STEAM Camps
Multi-Age Camps
STEAM & STEM Camps operate at the intersection of science, art, and imaginative play. Campers explore basic physics concepts while employing engineering/design methods and discussing the scientific process.
STEAM: Toymaking
June 24–28, 2024
Kindergarten–Grade 2
Waynflete • Spring Street Campus
9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Cost: $425
THIS CAMP IS FULL. JOIN THE WAIT-LIST
Campers will learn basic physics and engineering concepts while building various projects, including rubber band powered puppets, hydraulic lifts, and flying toys. We will also work cooperatively as a group to design a unique board game. Every afternoon, campers will have the options of field games, free choice time and reading
STEAM: Lifesize Chess
July 8–12, 2024
Grades 3–5
Waynflete • Spring Street Campus
9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Cost: $425
Campers will begin each day learning and reviewing strategy. We will then put our knowledge to work both cooperatively and individually to solve chess puzzles and win prizes through a point system. Throughout the week, we will create costumes to wear for our life-sized chess games. Every afternoon, campers will have the options of field games, free choice time, and reading.
STEM: Electronic Music Production
July 8–12, 2024
Grades 6–9
Waynflete • Spring Street Campus
9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Cost: $425
Using Ableton’s Impulse and Simpler samplers, campers will learn the basics of sampling and live recording! Campers will record their own sounds from a variety of sources, including miking various objects, field recordings, sampling from YouTube, and recording instruments of their choice. Campers will then learn to edit and creatively manipulate their sounds followed by creating short ideas and composing loops in Ableton, which are the foundation for building a song. We’ll learn how to record, edit, and develop their ideas using the functions in Ableton Live, gaining insight into the tools, concepts, and techniques used in today’s music production process. Everyone will be encouraged to complete at least one short piece of music using their own sounds and loops by the end of the week!
STEAM: Space Station
July 15–19, 2024
Kindergarten–Grade 2
Waynflete • Spring Street Campus
9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Cost: $425
THIS CAMP IS FULL. JOIN THE WAIT-LIST
Every morning will begin with a fun new fact about space. Campers will create their own planet with unique lifeforms, and we will encourage each creator to share the history and traditions of their planet’s inhabitants. Throughout the week, we will design and build a space station to welcome and accommodate all of the various creatures in our invented universe. Along the way, campers will be problem solving, learning basic physics and employing engineering design principles. There will be options for field games, free choice time, and reading in the afternoon
STEAM: Build A City
July 22–26, 2024
Grades 3–5
Waynflete • Spring Street Campus
9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Cost: $425
Campers will dream up and build their own city using upcycled materials. There will be opportunities to work cooperatively as a group and on solo projects, including a windmill-powered house with an LED light. We will map out our business and residential areas, schools, parks, public spaces, the airport/and or seaport. As we discuss the purpose and placement of each district, we will implement the engineering design process and learn about the ways that cities, highways, and neighborhoods are planned. Along the way, there will be engineering challenges, problem solving, spatial reasoning, and basic physics lessons all disguised as fun. Every afternoon, campers will have the options of field games, free choice time, and reading.
