Leadership team

Tessa Anable – Executive Director (Director of Enrichment)
Tessa Anable brings over twenty years experience running and directing a residential camp. She sees in summer camp enormous value for kids, who benefit immeasurably from time spent together outdoors without cell phones! Also a former paralegal and camp policy writer, she spent several years focused primarily on safety training and risk management. Tessa directs Waynflete’s enrichment office, designing and implementing auxiliary programs, including Waynflete Summer camps, “Afterschool” and weekly workshops, through which top local talent share specialized skills. The goal of inspiring a love for the creative process fuels Tessa’s work and inspires her design of “out-of-school-time” programs that provide rich social and emotional learning opportunities. Tessa volunteers with Maine CASA, representing in court children in foster care. Her three grown sons live in Colorado, California and Maine. Tessa sketches and paints in various media, is an avid reader, loves to walk, bicycle, play tennis, and run at the beach in all seasons.

Jason Bradeen – Director of Summer Programs
Jason Bradeen has been working with children for over twenty years. From coaching his brother’s basketball team as a high school student, to five summers as Head Counselor at Camp Beech Cliff on Mt. Desert Island, to today where he works as a school counselor at Saco Middle School. In addition he has worked in Child Protective Services, as a counselor at a private school for dyslexic learners, and helped found a high school for students with learning differences in California. He has masters degrees in both Education, School Leadership & Policy Studies, and is currently pursuing a certificate to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Jason is married to a fellow Waynflete educator and two boys who attend every day of summer camp at Waynflete. He is an avid bike racer, loves woodworking, and traveling whenever possible. Jason’s philosophy of camp is based on campers having fun, exploring new activities, building connections with fellow campers and staff, and above all learning. He believes that the learning that takes place at camp is rooted in a multisensory approach that makes lasting connections in campers minds. “There is nothing better than strolling around camp and seeing our staff deeply engaged in sharing their passion with campers in a manner that you know is creating learning and passions in those campers that will last a lifetime.”

Kathryn Amato – Office Manager (Enrichment Assistant)
During the school year, Camp Office Manager Kathryn Amato serves as the Enrichment Assistant at Waynflete. Kathryn has a Masters of Arts in Teaching from The University of Pittsburgh and is currently pursuing her MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts. Prior to working at Waynflete, Kathryn taught 10th grade English and worked at afterschool programs. Kathryn is so excited for her first summer as Office Manager and cannot wait to see what the program directors and counselors have planned! When she’s not at Waynflete, Kathryn loves to hike, garden, cook, and bake. Kathryn is looking forward to an exciting summer ahead!

James Packard – Head Counselor
James Packard works as a Behavioral Health Professional for Portland Public Schools and is new to Waynflete. He grew up in Connecticut and attended college in Maine. James is a graduate student in USM’s School of Social Work. In his spare time, he enjoys running, gardening and spending time in East Boothbay.
